I have ever felt that there was a reality in religion, and that it was all important; and ^that if I would be benefited by it, I must be per- sonally interested in it. But yet my heart, forbade the approach of firm resolutions, to seek the face and favour of God, and I felt unwilling to have it known, that I was an enquirer after truth, striving to become reconciled to that God, whose favour is eternal life. About ten years ago my mind was particularly called to the great concerns of the soul. I saw that I was pursuing a course in opposition to God, and disregarding my own _____ good, For some time I remained concerned, but at length my serious impre?sions seemed to wear away and I found my- -self going after and eagerly pursuing the transitory things of this vain world, quieting myself with the idea that a more convenient season might arrive, when I would attend to those ^things which concerned my everlasting peace. Have I continued to choose sin. But God, who is not willing that any should perish, did not entirely withdraw from me. About the middle of last March in seeing others earnestly enquiring for the way of life, I felt that I too, had a great work to do, My own wicked heart appeared wholly deformed, and I felt that I had done despite to the spirit of grace. I rem -ained in considerable distre?s for some weeks, and felt that mercy could not be extended to me. But while meditating upon my lost state as a sinner, the promise, "come unto me, all ye that labour, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" came to my mind, and I felt a peace and happine?s
