Rev. Dr. Richard Salter (1722-1787) was born in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard in 1739. He was ordained as minister in Mansfield, Connecticut in 1744. Salter was the second settled minister in Litchfield, and married Mary Williams, the daughter of the previous minister. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree from Yale in 1782. Salter served as the minister in Mansfield until his death in 1787. He published an election sermon to the Connecticut General Assembly in 1768.
