Rev. Joseph Swain (1723-1792) was born in Reading, Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard in 1744. He was ordained as the minister in Wenham, Massachusetts in 1750 and served there until his death in 1792. He married Elizabeth Warren, the widow of the church’s previous minister. Swain served as a chaplain during the Seven Years’ War and again during the Revolutionary War.
