Rev. Joseph Lyman (1749-1828) was born in Lebanon, Connecticut and graduated from Yale in 1767. He was ordained as the minister in Hatfield, Massachusetts in 1772 and continued to serve there until his death in 1828. He also served as president of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Lyman published many sermons during his lifetime, including funeral sermons, thanksgiving sermons, and an election sermon in 1787.
