Rev. Jonathan Edwards, Jr. (1745-1801) was born in Northampton, Massachusetts, the son of Rev. Jonathan Edwards and Sarah Pierpont Edwards. He graduated from Princeton in 1765. He was ordained as a minister in New Haven in 1769 and dismissed in 1795 due to a theological dispute. He then became the minister in Colebrook, Connecticut in 1796, but left in 1799 to become president of Union College in Schenectady, New York. Edwards died in 1801. He published several sermons during his lifetime, including an influential antislavery sermon in 1791.
