Browse the Jonathan Burr sermons
Rev. Jonathan Burr (1757-1842) was born in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard in 1784. Prior to attending Harvard, Burr served in the Revolutionary War. He was ordained as the minister at the First Church in Sandwich, Massachusetts in 1787. He was dismissed in 1811 over theological differences and started a new congregation with people from that community. His dispute with the church over which congregation should be called the First Church and use the meeting house went to the Supreme Court. He served as their minister until 1817, and died in 1842.
