Rev. Henry True (1726-1782) was born in Salisbury, Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard in 1750. He was ordained as the first settled minister in Hampstead, New Hampshire in 1752. The following year he married Ruth Ayer of Haverhill, Massachusetts. True served as a chaplain in New York during the Seven Years’ War. He remained the minister in Hampstead until his death in 1782. True did not publish any sermons during his lifetime. His son, Henry True, Jr., also became a Congregational minister.
