Eliza Morton relation of faith, 1829

In march 1828 my attention was called to attend to the great concerns of my soul. I viewed myself a great sinner Justly condemned before god. when ^My first I had serious impre?sions [two words] were [one word]^occasiond by hearing of the conver?ion of one my friends in the Revd Mr. Shaws pari?h. my Di?tre? of mind I thought was more than I could endure I searched my Bible to find Something to heal my wounded Spirit I promi?ed myself if my life was spaired I would Seek religion. during the time I walked in thick darkne?s almo?t in di?pair, I thought there was no mercy for such a sinner as I saw myself to be. my pa?t abu?ed privilegs my oppositions to A holy god was set in array before me. it appeared to me that I saw the wickedne?s of my whole life I a?ked A Chri?tian friend what I should do to obtain mercy. She told me I must resign my?elf and all into the hands of the Lord I thought this was more than I could do. I was willing to give all up but my family. I went to ^attended meeting to hear the Revd Mr Sanford Preach his Di?cour?e was from the?e words to day if you will hear his voice harden not your hearts, from this I gained some Strength but I was soon left in the dark I ^could See nothing but the torments of hell for me I took my bible but could read nothing to ea?e my troubled Soul, weary and di?te?sed I retired to Sleep but it Seemed like the Sleep of Sorrow. I Awoke in the ^morning took my Babe in my arms and thought I would try to Sing this ver?e. O do not Be di?couraged for Jesus is your friend and if ye want more knowledge he'll not refu?e to lend neather will he upbraid you tho often you reque?t, he'll give you grace to conquer and take you home to re?t. this verse gave me relief,, I looked upon my babe and said within my?elf. am I willing to give you up into the hands of the Lord I Said yes I am willing to re?ign myself and family into his hands to do with me and mine as he plea?ed
