Asa Herrick's Relation The first thing which arrested my attention was the sickness of my Father, last winter when he was deprived of his reason. This brought a new scene of dis- tress. I found I wanted something to lean on, which I never yet had. I searched the bible, & found it was all against me. I usually attended meetings - but found an utter opposition to the preaching, which I heard. I often longed to be out of the meeting-house, & heart- ily wished my-self out of the hearing of the sermon. I was conscious it was the truth of God, which I heard from time to time, but I rejoiced when the sermon closed. I sometimes tried to pray --- & knew I ought to do it, -- but my conscience flew in my face -- & my heart refu- sed. Mr Harris preached here upon the text, "In me that is in my flesh there dwelleth no good thing." I felt the truth of the subject most sensibly.
