Thomas Prince (1687-1758) was born in Sandwich, Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard in 1707. He was ordained at Old South Church in Boston, Massachusetts in 1718 as a colleague pastor with Rev. Joseph Sewall. Prince remained a minister at Old South until his death in 1758. He was also a notable book collector and historian, and he published A Chronological History of New England, in the Form of Annals in 1736. He published many other historical treatises and sermons on significant events such as the deaths of Cotton Mather and Samuel Sewall.
This collection contains an astronomical diary; two sermons written by Prince; notes on sermons Prince heard in Boston churches; and a part of a manuscript from his A Chronological History of New England.
Materials in this collection have been digitized in partnership with Massachusetts Historical Society and made available through our New England’s Hidden Histories project.
