TThe North Guilford Congregational Church was organized in 1720 when North Guilford created a separate ecclesiastical society from the Guilford, Connecticut First Church. The first minister, Rev. Samuel Russell, was ordained in 1725 and served until his death in 1746. The second settled minister in North Guilford was Rev. John Richards. He was ordained in 1748 and dismissed in 1765 to move to Vermont. Rev. Thomas Bray was ordained in 1766 and served as the minister in North Guilford until his death in 1808. He was followed by Rev. Rev. WIlliam Vaill, who served as minister from 1808 until 1820, when he left to become a missionary. Later ministers in the nineteenth century included Revs. Zolva Whitmore, John Ambler, Henry Eddy, Fosdick Harrison, Abraham Baldwin, and Thomas Dutton.
The first meetinghouse was constructed in 1723, and the current church building was completed in 1814. The North Guilford Congregational Church is still active today and is a member of the United Church of Christ (UCC). This church is also referred to in the records as the Second Congregational Church of Guilford.
This collection contains five volumes of church records which include admissions, dismissions, baptisms, marriages, deaths, meeting notes, financial records, and ecclesiastical society records.
