Browse the Congregational Church records in Greenland, New Hampshire
The Congregational Church in Greenland, New Hampshire was organized with 29 members in 1706 after the town separated from Portsmouth. The first settled minister was Rev. William Allen, ordained in 1707, who served until his death in 1760. A meetinghouse was built in 1756, and the same year Rev. Samuel McClintock was called to assist Rev. Allen due to his ill health; he took over as minister when Allen died. The second minister, Rev. Samuel McClintock, also served as a chaplain in both the Seven Years’ War and the War of Independence. McClintock died in 1804.
In 1922, the Congregational Church in Greenland united with the local Methodist Church as the Federated Church until 1949. The church is active today and now known as the Community Congregational Church of Greenland and is a member of the United Church of Christ (UCC).
