Rev. Dr. Charles Stearns (1753-1826) was born in Lunenburg, Massachusetts in 1753. He graduated from Harvard in 1773, and returned later to earn a Doctor of Divinity degree. He was ordained as the minister at Lincoln, Massachusetts in 1781 and also taught at the school founded in that town. Stearns married Susanna Cowdry in 1782 and they had 11 children. He had several sermons published, as well as a book of poetry titled The Ladies’ Philosophy of Love: A Poem, in Four Cantos. He continued as the minister in Lincoln until his death in 1826.
